I was on a website on safari then all of a sudden an apple-style popup appeared and warned me about a virus. It warned the only way to remove it was to run a scan. I quickly exit of of the page and safari.
What's up with that? Should I have pressed the button to scan? Is my iPod touch in danger?
What should I do? I didn't think iPod's could get viruses...

That is just a scam. That warning will pup up for all visitors. You will likely have a problem if you did the scan except many of those scans do not work/infect a Mac since they are PC only
As indicated, this is just a scam, not a real virus. Your iPod is not infected.
If you are having difficulty making the warning go away, follow the directions on clearing information from Safari at the bottom of this page:

This happened to me to it said I had 4 minuets to download an app or my personal things like photos, facebook etc. Will be disrupted. So in a panic I clicked install and after clicking it it just backed out after a second. That's when I knew it was a scam. Hope this helps 🙂
